How to Plant Your Seed Paper

Thank you for choosing Seed Bloom Plantable Seed Papers. Some of our products do not include a physical planting guide or envelopes, so we’ve provided all the information you need right here.

Each seed paper is handmade with eco-friendly materials and contains six wildflower seeds.

What’s Inside the Seed Paper

Our wildflower blend is carefully selected to thrive in a variety of U.S. climates and includes:

  • Snapdragon (Annual)
  • Petunia (Annual)
  • Beardtongue (Perennial)
  • Poppy (Annual)
  • Mountain Mint (Perennial)
  • Chamomile (Perennial)

These plants typically grow up to 3 feet tall, tolerate partial shade, and need at least 4 hours of direct sunlight daily.

No Pre-Soaking Required

While pre-soaking is not required, it can help speed up germination. You may plant the seed paper directly in soil or soak it briefly before planting if preferred.

What You'll Need
  • Your plantable seed paper
  • A pot or planting container with drainage holes
  • Quality potting soil
  • Water spray bottle (optional, but helpful)
  • Sunny spot for growing

Planting Instructions

Step 1: Fully Saturate the Paper

Before planting, completely saturate your seed paper with water. This helps begin the germination process and breaks down the paper fibers. Simply submerge the paper in water for about a minute until thoroughly soaked.

    Step 2: Prepare Your Pot

Fill your chosen container about 2/3 full with good quality potting soil. Smooth the surface gently, but don't pack the soil too tightly, roots need room to breathe and grow!

    Step 3: Plant the Paper

Take your saturated plantable paper and place it on top of the soil in your prepared pot. Don't worry if you need to fold the paper or if pieces overlap—the seeds will find their way!

Now cover the paper with a thin 1/8 inch layer of soil. This light covering protects the seeds while allowing them to push through easily once germination begins.

    Step 4: Water During Germination

This is crucial: Keep the planted paper moist at all times during the germination period. A gentle misting with a spray bottle works perfectly to maintain moisture without disturbing the seeds. The paper should never dry out completely during this early stage.

Step 5: Find the Perfect Spot

Place your pot in a sunny location that receives at least 4 hours of direct sunlight each day. A bright windowsill, balcony, or garden spot works wonderfully. The right amount of sunlight is essential for healthy growth and abundant blooms.

    Step 6: Care After Germination

Within 1-2 weeks (depending on seed varieties, conditions and planting locations), you'll begin to see tiny sprouts emerging from the soil. Continue to water regularly, but you can reduce frequency slightly as the plants establish themselves—just ensure the soil doesn't dry out completely.

As your wildflowers grow, thin out overcrowded areas if necessary to give each plant enough space to flourish. Then sit back and enjoy watching your sustainable gift transform into living flowers!

    5 Planting Tips for Success

    1. Keep the soil moist
Water regularly to keep the soil damp but not soggy. Moisture is key for germination during the first 4–6 weeks.

    2. Choose a sunny spot
Pick a location that gets at least 4 hours of direct sunlight daily. Sunlight helps the seeds grow strong.

    3. Don’t bury it deep
Lay the seed paper flat and cover with just 1/8 inch of soil. Burying too deep can prevent sprouting.

    4. Use well-draining soil
Make sure your soil or pot has good drainage. Too much water can rot the seeds before they sprout.

    5. Plant during the right season
For best results, plant in spring or early fall when temperatures are mild. Avoid extreme cold or heat to give the seeds a better chance to grow.

So you've received our magical plantable seed paper and you're ready to transform it into a beautiful patch of wildflowers! Follow these simple steps to ensure your seeds sprout successfully and bring color to your space.

    Troubleshooting Tips
    • Not seeing sprouts? Be patient! Some seed varieties take longer than others to germinate. Ensure consistent moisture and adequate sunlight.
    • Yellow leaves? This could indicate overwatering. Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings once plants are established.
    • Leggy plants? Your seedlings might need more direct sunlight. Try rotating the pot or moving to a sunnier location.
